Battles and Campaigns: Battle at Angaur - received Bronze Star, Battle at Peleliu - received Bronze Star and Purple Heart, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star for service at Leyte. American Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct, 81st Infantry Division, Combat Infantry Badge. Masao was seriously wounded in action on the island of Peleliu, October, 1945.

Masao Abe, Nisei, was born in San Bernardino, California, on November 16th, 1916. When he was 8 years old, his family took him to Japan where they left him with his paternal grandparents in the small village of Senoue, Fukushima-ken. Masao lived in Japan until he was 18, at which time he returned to the United States to live with his Uncle Tatsuo (his father, Yasoshichi's younger brother) in San Bernardino. Together, they operated Star Cash Grocery until Masao was drafted into the U.S. Army in the summer of 1941.
