Larry was born in Emmett, Idaho while his parents, Ted and Marie Nakata were working on a farm in Idaho after voluntarily leaving Minadoka to work in lieu of remaining in camp. He was raised in Seattle and attended Franklin High School and graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in accounting. He served 4 years in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in Vietnam from 10/68 to 09/69. He married Aileen Mori in 1968 and raised 2 children, Tracie and Ryan. Larry retired from the Internal Revenue Service in 2000. He and Aileen have 4 grandsons.
